Taking care of my pearly whites

Throughout social media posts and in person, many have complimented my smile. Although I am thankful for their compliment, I always give the credit to my orthodontist. I mean… before him I wasn’t even close to my current smile and I used to be super self-conscious of the size of my teeth. Later on, it became a trend that is here to stay- big, bold, straight, white smiles. Regardless, I have to say I am very confident in my smile today, yet taking care of these teeth takes some trial and error. Which is why I decided to try the Shyn electric toothbrush and oral care package for health and whitening.

I honestly never really cared for electric toothbrushes, I thought they were way overpriced and they would leave me with a headache after brushing. Whenever I went to the dentist, they’d offer me a Sonicare for only $299! Wow… such a deal, right? (Please feel the sarcasm in that last comment). I was so close to buying it last time, but I decided to hold off to see what other brands were out there to try for myself. I was lucky and was able to get Shyn’s Bright Collection (toothpaste, flossers, whitening strips, brush head of my choice, and the toothbrush itself) complementary to see if I liked it.

What’s in the Box

Shyn is convenient because it comes with a compact travel case and you can take it anywhere with a couple of different toothbrush heads, like the anti-plaque one, the gum care one, or the whitening one. Sonicare also makes brush heads for whitening, plaque removal and gum care, but they cost $29.99 – $48.99 per pack. That comes out to $10 – $15 per brush head, so way more than Shyn brush heads that cost only $5. The Bright Collection also comes with a bunch of other cool products. More on that later (or you can skip ahead to the subscription section).

Bigger Isn’t Always Better

Compared to Sonicare, the Shyn toothbrush handle is smaller and easy to carry on the go, which is ideal for me because I’m always finding my next adventure somewhere. Compared to Quip brushes, it is a tad bigger, but with the travel case, it’s nothing you can really complain about.

The Actual Brushing

How has Shyn worked on my teeth? Well, I loved it. I used to use manual brushes before and now I feel like I’m getting a spa treatment for my teeth every time I brush. The vibration is so smooth and almost relaxing, it’s it makes brushing more of an experience than a health routine task.

The Shyn sonic toothbrush handle has 4 different cleaning modes: Clean, White, Sensitive and Massage. They each have 3-5 different intensity levels, so you can brush the way that’s comfortable and not give yourself a headache. It also has a pressure sensor to let you know if you brush too hard, which can weaken your tooth enamel and cause gum recession. A lot of the higher end Sonicare toothbrushes have similar features, and both Sonicare and Shyn clean with 31,000 brush strokes (62,000 vibrations) per minute. But a higher end Sonicare costs way more, between $130-$300 versus the Shyn Sonic Toothbrush around half the price at $60!

How Much Shyn Costs

Price-wise, Shyn has a couple of different options. It comes in 3 different product collections that run from $59.99 to $79.99 with a subscription. The collections are so worth it because they can save you up to $100 vs. how much you would pay at the store for a Sonicare handle, brush head and all the other bundled oral care products that come with the subscription.

About The Subscription

Did I mention that Shyn is an oral care subscription service? You can subscribe to 3 different options: the Daily Collection, which gives you brush head refills at $4.99, the Care Collection, which includes refills on brush heads, whitening toothpaste and floss picks for $14.99, or the Bright Collection, which includes everything in the Care Collection, plus an at-home whitening treatment, for $29.99. The Bright Collection works the best for me personally. Up until I tried it, I’d have to try a thousand different things for whitening. Now, I can take care of everything for my oral care all at once.
