Feeling the love in Cancun

When we started dating, I never imagined we would have the relationship and friendship we have today. I can honestly understand all the deep love songs and poetry that I thought of as corny or too much in the past. I found my one and only.

Cancun was true paradise. This was our first vacation out of the country as a couple, and I honestly can’t wait to have more experiences and create more memories like this with my boo. I’m not sure if it was the turquoise and aqua colors of the ocean contrasting with the perfectly lit sky, the palm trees along with the sound of the waves, the fact that we were so disconnected from the world or even the all-inclusive drinks and food, but it was everything you’d expect and more.

I never imagined that a vacation could go so well, that we could truly get such “feels” for each other all over again that made us want to be all over each other the entire time, not just in the physical way, but in the “I just love you so much I can’t quit looking at you and kissing your face” type of way. After dating for almost six years with a couple of breaks in there, you get what I call “your couple groove,” which is pretty much the routine you create with each other. Now… I don’t want you to think that I’m saying it’s the routine they talk about in movies and the couples have lost themselves, they are miserable, lost the love, etc., etc. I think anyone who is or has been in a relationship can agree that your groove is what makes your relationship unique, but what makes it great is having it with someone you love.

ANYWAY! When we booked this vacation, I was living in Miami, FL and Brayden was in Salt Lake City, Utah; I was gone for work. The deal came up on the Instagram page ‘Flights from Home SLC’ and I called Brayden and said, “shall we?” He said, “Let’s do it!” and so we booked flights within the hour and decided it was best to leave during the winter (best decision ever by the way). When we got there, it was 75 degrees and sunny… this was all before eight in the morning, soooo it was kind of perfect when you’re coming from 20-degree weather.

We went with our other couple bff’s, Kenzie and Ripken. It’s actually really funny how they ended up coming. It was right before the fourth of July, and we were all hanging out when both Brayden and I thought it would be so fun to have them there, so we invited them so spontaneously (with a couple of drinks on us too) and about a month later they were getting their tickets too and boom it was official. We didn’t even book our hotel until a month or so before we left for Cancun, but it was worth the wait.

We found an all-inclusive deal on Groupon and paid about $800 for two people for four nights and it was amazing! Side note: I probably had more tequila than ever in my life and now Don Julio is my ultimate favorite thing to drink, because it truly got us crazy and happy the ENTIRE time haha. During our stay we went on an excursion to do zip lining, four-wheeling and diving into a cenote with wild monkeys around, it was SO much fun! Another of the days we were on an adult only sailing boat that took us snorkeling to underwater ruins, we went to Isla Mujeres, a private beach and we got to ride golf carts around the island.

The entire time was such a dream and I can’t wait to go back! When Brayden first proposed the idea of going with another couple, I wondered why, then he told me he wanted to save a tropical out of the country trip with just the two of us for our honeymoon… I melted instantly! Now I can’t wait for our honeymoon and our next out of the country trip (after Cancun we’ve already done two out of state trips with many more to come). Through time, we’ve learned that experiences are so much better than just material gifts and I love every second of our adventures just as much as our routine groove.
